There are apple years and no apple years. Latvia has lots of species of old apple trees. They are over abundant with apples one year, and the next year they rest. I found that I can make tasty crunchy dried apple crisps in my bread oven. In an apple year friends pressed over 800 liters of juice from their trees. Luckily most Latvian homesteads come with cold cellars for storing foods for winter. Thats a lot of juice to drink.
