A vainags or crown is the traditional head covering for Latvian girls until they marry. Midsummer everyone, married or not picks flowers to make herself a flower crown. I had the idea to knit a vainags as an entrelac pattern. Inga saw it and was adamant I knit more to sell at last summers Song Festival, so I did. It was a huge success as everyone who tried one on immediately started to smile and straightened her back. You just cannot be hunched over if you are wearing a crown.
If you didn't make it to the festival you can still get your vainags for those times when a hat is too warm. Its a fun whimsical way to keep your ears warm.
There are 8 color blends to pick from, I will send you just ONE, so please let me know your preference, 1, 2, or 5 perhaps? You can write your choice in the "order comments" at the very bottom of the order form.
