Ķemeru tīrelis is a bog not far from Rīga, Latvia that is covered with sphagnum moss and stunted pines. Māra decided to celebrate her birthday there and gave her friends and family the gift of a guided tour. I had been to the bog years back, but with a guide I learned so much. The stunted pines are more than 70 years old. The water is all from rain. Moss disinfects so if you squeeze a handful, the water that comes out is ready to drink. Be warned, if you step on the bog you may sink in a few meters so its best to stick to the boardwalk.
