A friend gave me a violet she grew from a cutting. My mom had a whole series of violets in my childhood. She would buy them, and they would wither and die repeatedly until something changed and all her violets started blooming and growing. Mom never figured out what she started doing different, and why they suddenly were happy. My violet is happy, but we did have a bit of a withering period until I found the perfect window ledge for it.
